Bishop Wondell Johnson, Sr. Pastor
Bishop Wondell Johnson was born in Jersey City, NJ to the late Bishop Leno Johnson and the late Missionary Magdalene Johnson. He is one of two sons. He moved to Atlantic City, in the late spring of 1950 and joined the Morning Star Holiness Church of Atlantic City, NJ where his father was Pastor.
Bishop Johnson is a graduate of the Atlantic City High School, and Garden State Bible Institute. He has worked on a doctorate at the Universal Bible College, Texas. He is presently working on a doctorate from the University of Biblical Studies, Bethany, Oklahoma, and attended Atlantic Community College. Bishop Johnson is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors.
Bishop Wondell Johnson under divine direction founded the Grace Tabernacle Pentecostal Fellowship Church, along with his wife, Pastor Gloria Johnson. In 1977, a small mission was open at 208 Madison Avenue, Atlantic City, NJ. Bishop Wondell Johnson was installed as the Pastor of the Church.
The church grew and it was necessary to move to a larger facility. In 1978, the church moved to 805 Arctic Avenue, in Atlantic City, NJ. The church began a Building Fund Project to build a new church. The lord directed Bishop Wondell Johnson to our present location, 224 Shadeland Avenue, Pleasantville, NJ. On May 15, 1979, the church was purchased. Dedication services followed. In 1988, we were blessed to pay off our existing edifice.
Bishop Johnson prayed and God directed him to the property located on Park Avenue and Doughty Road, Pleasantville, NJ. The property was purchased, which consist of two acres. In July 1991 the first tent service was held on the site. Bishop being led by the Holy Spirit invited various preachers and churches. Souls were blessed and saved through this vision. The tent services continued annually. A tent was purchased in 2001. We are planning to erect Grace Community Family Life Center on this site. Bishop was led by the Lord to purchase the property located at 300 Shadeland Avenue, Pleasantville, NJ, It houses an office for the Bishop, a food pantry, and space for multi-purpose use. Purchasing this property also allowed us to expand our parking lot.
In an effort to reach out to more souls, the Grace Tabernacle Outreach Ministry Broadcast was established on 1490AM WUSS the Theme: TO WIN THE LOST AT ANY COST was our adage. The outreach Ministry has consisted of Broadcasting on Radio Station WINN in Salem, NJ and most recently 88.7FM WEHA. Outreach services are held monthly at the Atlantic City Rescue Mission and a monthly Prison Ministry to reach those with little or no hope. A Community bible class for youth, women and men is held weekly focusing on issues facing our daily lives. Many souls have been saved and delivered trough this powerful ministry. Our church theme: “GROW IN GRACE” is a vision of the Bishop.
Bishop Johnson is the CEO of the Grace Community Family Life Center; a faith based organization derived from the church to address the needs of the people in the community. He served 12 years as Vice-President of the Fellowship of Churches of Atlantic City and vicinity. He serves diligently as a minister of the alternative to the detention for minority youth of Atlantic City, NJ and vicinity. He serves on the New Jersey state prison re-entry task force. Bishop Johnson directs a mission ministry at the Atlantic City Rescue Mission, and a prison Ministry team at the Atlantic County justice facility. He is a member of the New Jersey regional coalition; he is a volunteer member of the Atlantic City Public School District, Pleasantville youth and employment coordination council, and Pleasantville Public School District. He also serves as a member of the New Jersey school community partnership program of Pleasantville, New Jersey, and the AtlantiCare Committee of Atlantic County. Bishop Johnson is a resource for clergy involvement and civic matters in Pleasantville and Atlantic City, NJ. He represents clergy at civic meetings. Bishop Johnson has many accomplishments, he now serves full time in the Ministry he is retired member of Laborers International Union of North America local # 415.
In 2002, Bishop Johnson was consecrated as the Presiding Prelate of the Grace Tabernacle Ministries Inc.; A multicultural fellowship of churches throughout the United States and Haiti. Bishop Johnson is one of this areas noted theologians, he is highly respected and often sought out for guidance by his colleagues. Bishop Johnson has devoted over four decades to the work of the Lord and the community not seeking fame or fortune but simply because “he has a passion for people”.
Faithfully serving by his side is his lovely wife 1st Lady, Pastor Gloria Johnson. They were blessed with four children; Minister Brian Johnson (Resting in God’s Care) who transitioned from labor to reward in February 2014, Minister Eric Johnson of Hackensack, NJ, Minister Kelvin Johnson of Atlanta GA, Missionary Kerri Taylor of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; Three daughters- in- law, One son- in- law, and Sixteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Bishop Johnson is a noted theologian and is admired and highly respected throughout the east coast.
1st Lady, Pastor Gloria Johnson
Pastor Gloria Johnson is the daughter of the late Deacon William C. Harvey Sr. & Mother Ella Mae Harvey. 1st Lady Johnson is married to Bishop Wondell Johnson, Senior Pastor and founder of the Grace Tabernacle Pentecostal Fellowship Church, Pleasantville, NJ. Pastor Johnson is 1st Lady and Co-Founder.
She is the mother of three sons: The Late Minister Brian Johnson, Minister Eric Johnson, and Minister Kelvin Johnson, one daughter, Missionary Kerri Taylor. Pastor Johnson has three daughters-in-law; one son in law: sixteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is a graduate of Beaufort County High School, Pantego, NC. She has attended Glassboro State College (now known as Rowan University) Glassboro, NJ. Atlantic Cape Community College and Atlantic County Vocational school, Mays Landing, NJ. Majoring in Early Childhood education. 1st Lady Pastor Johnson also attended the Berean Bible Institute.
1st Lady Pastor Gloria Johnson in 1989 received an award of appreciation, from the Ministers Wives Christian Association of Atlantic City and Vicinity, where she served as past President. She is a member of the State Ministers Wives and Widows. Pastor Johnson was awarded in 2000 the President, Mrs. Katherine Brown award for outstanding and dedicated leadership. She also served as past chairperson of the Necrology Committee. She is a member of the Interdenominational International Minister’s Wives and Widows. Pastor Johnson served as past president of the local union #1040 CWA, and retired from the Association for Retarded Citizens of Atlantic County (ARC) and Gloria’s Day Care (Childcare). Pastor Johnson serves as coordinator of the Grace Community Family Life Center’s Food Pantry.
1st Lady Pastor Gloria Johnson is a member of the Fellowship of Churches of Atlantic City & vicinity. She has served as devotional leader, and speaker. In January 2017 at the monthly meeting she received an appreciation award as the November Meditation Speaker. In 2018 she was honored with a Mother’s Day Award.
1st Lady Pastor Gloria Johnson served as an Evangelist and General Secretary for many years. On May 26, 2002 God called her to a higher level in ministry, and she was elevated to Pastor of the Grace Tabernacle Pentecostal Fellowship Church. Pastor Johnson has a prayer, deliverance and counseling ministry.
